The Archive
A one-of-a-kind light grayish blue denim jacket built from materials with histories of their own. The white fabric printed with scientific diagrams originated as artwork created roughly 40 years ago by the designer’s husband, an artist, and preserved in his flat-file archives. Here, fragments of that work are combined with hand-dyed and altered denim, ticking stripes, typography, charcoal foil, raw edges, and hand stitching. Contrasts run throughout—old and new, graphic and organic, precise and irregular, soft textile and almost leather-like surfaces—yet the elements settle together with an unexpected sense of calm.The Archive is, in a sense, a collaboration between two artists working decades apart, with one work becoming part of another 40 years later.
